Five Questions Every Search
Committee Should Ask
Since our founding in 2002, we have worked with literally hundreds of search committee members as they grapple with leadership succession. From this fascinating mix of missions, personalities, recruitment challenges and interview styles, we've developed some questions common to successful searches.
In this month's smorgasBoard, we offer five questions every search committee should ask of itself. In the next issue, we pose five questions every search committee should ask of its candidates.
The questions are fluid, to be sure, and we would like to hear the ones you have found most valuable in your experience. Click here to share your best questions, and we'll publish a sample in a forthcoming smorgasBoard.

Short video of BoardWalk's 5th anniversary celebration
This past January, over 250 of BoardWalk's friends and supporters from the business, government and philanthropic sectors joined us in our offices in Atlanta's historic Candler Building in belated celebration of the firm's fifth anniversary (we'll be six on October 1, 2008).
At the evening we honored two distinguished guests whose influence extends far beyond their immediate communities:
- Hala Moddelmog, president & CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, who received our first annual Encore Career Award, and
- Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, recipient of our Service Above Self Award.
Photographer Fitz Randolph created a fun video summary of the evening. Click here to view BoardWalk in action! |
Developments on the BoardWalk Earlier this month, we bid fond farewell to Kelly Lee, BoardWalk's Director of Research, as she left Atlanta to join her fiance' in North Carolina.
During her time at BoardWalk, Kelly played a critical role in collecting and organizing the firm's intellectual capital. She worked with dozens of clients throughout the Southeast and beyond, and her enthusiasm for all was unparalleled. She helped launch smorgasBoard , and she coordinated our highly successful BoardWalk Governance Fellowships at Harvard Business School.
Kelly, we miss you! |
