We charge a fixed retainer for every assignment, and we bill that retainer over the expected life of the project.
For executive search assignments, we establish a fixed fee for each assignment. We then bill that fee in three or four monthly installments, depending on the particular circumstance. Your payment of the first invoice constitutes our authority to proceed.
We specifically do not charge a percentage of salary for executive searches, as we think it inappropriate for a search consultant to have a vested personal interest in the size of the compensation package being negotiated. Our incentive for a successful search is professional, not compensatory.
For governance assignments, we quote a monthly retainer for a set period of months, agreeing at the outset to reevaluate both progress and value-added at specified intervals. As above, payment of the first invoice constitutes our authority to proceed; further invoices are then issued and payable monthly.
For board retreats and board planning sessions, we charge a flat fee that reflects the length of the retreat or the planning cycle, the size of the board, and the time required for preparation and follow-up.
For all assignments, we charge back the expenses we incur on the client's behalf. The vast majority of such expenses reflects whatever travel is required for face-to-face meetings with clients and candidates. Our service is first class, but we travel coach, and we do not mark up these charges.
In addition, we assess each project a 6% charge for administrative, research and communications expenses to cover research subscriptions (Internet and print), telephone, courier, report preparation and the like.
In return for your commitment to our fixed fee, we commit to continuing our efforts on your behalf until you are satisfied, assuming only that you have kept your account with us current.
